LLM SEO means getting your pages used and linked by AI assistants such as ChatGPT, Claude and Perplexity, not only ranked by Google. Our data says the two are different games: on our own site, four of the five pages Google shows most got zero visits from ChatGPT, and one utility page got almost all of them. So measure AI visits page by page before you change anything, because a Google rank report will not tell you.

By Yaniv Mizrahi, founder of TalkGenAI. Data from our site 4MeNearMe.com (Search Console and Google Analytics 4, pulled 10 October 2026) and a 40-question test we ran on a client site in August 2026, anonymized.

Which pages does ChatGPT send visitors to?

On 4MeNearMe.com, ChatGPT sent 122 sessions in September 2026. 114 of them landed on one page: a tool that shows the current time in each US state.

Bar chart: time zone page 41,356 Google impressions and 115 ChatGPT visits; car insurance calculator 9,404 and 0; YouTube link generator 8,600 and 0; pet insurance calculator 4,662 and 0; email address generator 3,906 and 0; Reddit comment search 116 and 2

Pages ranking on Google's first page with thousands of impressions got nothing from ChatGPT. A small Reddit search tool with 116 impressions got 2 visits. The pages that get AI visits answer one concrete need that an assistant cannot answer by itself, such as "what time is it in Arizona right now". We do not claim this is the only reason; it is the pattern on our site.

Is AI traffic growing?

On our site, yes. ChatGPT visits went from 57 in November 2025 to 122 in September 2026, with dips in between.

It is still small. Across the three accounts we can measure, AI assistants were between 0.1% and 1% of all site traffic in August 2026. On this site the share rose from 0.23% (September 2025) to 0.98% (August 2026). Engagement was lower than average: 10 of 122 ChatGPT sessions were engaged in September, while the site averages 19%.

Do AI assistants cite you the way Google ranks you?

No. In August 2026 we asked ChatGPT and Claude 40 buyer questions about one client's market, 80 calls in total, 79 of which returned a usable answer. What came back:

Engine Answers that named the brand Answers that linked to it
ChatGPT 8 1
Claude 7 12

ChatGPT talked about the brand but rarely linked it. Claude linked more often than it named. A single "AI visibility score" hides this. Prompt trackers, such as the one in Surfer (compared on our Surfer SEO alternative page), tell you how often you are mentioned; analytics tells you who clicked. Our LLM SEO tools comparison sorts the trackers by job and price. When we put the same client's pages next to their Google rankings, 9 pages were cited by an assistant without ranking on Google, and 11 pages were fetched by an AI crawler but never cited. How this differs from classic SEO is in GEO vs SEO vs AEO.

How do I do LLM SEO on my own site?

  1. Measure first. In GA4, look at sessions by source for chatgpt.com, perplexity.ai, claude.ai and gemini.google.com, per landing page. TalkGenAI's AI Visibility tab and the get_report tool (ai_traffic, ai_impact) show the same data next to your Google position.
  2. Find your "golden" pages: pages with both AI visits and Google traffic. Write more pages like them.
  3. Answer one question per page, in the first sentences. Assistants quote the part that answers. Put the answer in the opening, then the detail.
  4. Build things assistants cannot do themselves: calculators, current data, lookups, checklists with your own numbers.
  5. Publish facts you own. Your prices, your test results, your process. Assistants link sources for facts they cannot get elsewhere.
  6. Re-check monthly. AI traffic moves fast; ours doubled between May and June.

Can an AI agent do this measuring for me?

Yes. Connect Claude or Cursor to TalkGenAI and ask: "Show me which of my pages got visits from ChatGPT last month, next to their Google position." It calls get_report with ai_impact and returns the page table above. From there it can find what to write next in Search Console, or you can let an AI SEO agent write the article. For writing from the dashboard, see the SEO blog writer guide.
